Announcing Our Friday Tish

A few years ago, in the middle of leading a lively Shabbat gathering, Erica was pounding the table so joyfully in song that she actually cracked her engagement ring. (Don’t worry—it was fixable!)

That moment captures what this kind of gathering is all about: a table alive with energy, music, wisdom, and connection.

This fall, as Shabbat begins earlier and earlier, we’re shifting our Friday night rhythm to make space for exactly that.

After months of offering our beloved User’s Guide to Shabbat Prayer—a beautiful entry point for learning the melodies, meanings, and flow of the service—we’ll now begin our songful Shabbat services right at the top of the evening, after communal candlelighting.

And later in the evening, we’ll gather around our long communal table for something new: a tish (the Yiddish word for “table”), where we’ll share songs, stories, reflections, l’chaims, and the kind of spirited time that makes you want to bang the table with joy.

We can’t wait to welcome you into this new rhythm of Shabbat.
