Increasing Our Joy

We've made it to the Hebrew month of Adar! 🌒

Throwback! Click here to see a video of younger Erica and Dimitry singing about the arrival of the month of Adar back in 2018! (Dimitry is playing his new-at-the-time oud).

We've made it to the Hebrew month of Adar! 🌒

Importantly, our tradition teaches: Mishenichnas Adar, Marbim b'Simcha! (translation: when the month of Adar arrives, joy increases!)

To this, we say: Bring 👏 on 👏 the 👏 joy.

We need it. Many in our community have experienced this year so far as one of grief (both collective and personal), heartbreak, shipwreck, and loneliness.

But in Adar, we commit to hold all of those human experiences alongside the experience of joy. "Joy" is not a veneer of happiness, nor a cheap "everything's gonna be alright," teach our sages, but rather joy is any feeling full experienced. And, as the late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks taught, "Simcha is joy shared. It is not something we experience in solitude."

So, join us this month to tap into the experience of joy in community.

Yes, even if you're hibernating 🥶.
Yes, even if you're not sure if everyone you'll meet is your political comrade (community transcends politics). 😒
And yes, even if you're not feeling joyous yet. 😕

We are the inheritors of joy in Adar. Full-throated, complex, deeply-felt, can't-do-it-alone joy. Come get some! Come over this month for conversation, Shabbat magic, PURIM ANTICS, and joy joy joy.
