Who We Are

Tzibur is a home for soulful, creative, and accessible Jewish experiences, rooted in the vibrant energy of our neighborhood. Whether you're looking for a welcoming Shabbat table, meaningful Jewish learning, or a way to connect with others like you (and unlike you), there’s a place for you here.

We gather in ways that feel natural and joyful—on Friday nights at Fridays at Temple 5, a warm and music-filled Shabbat dinner series; through Shalom Harlem, our initiative for families to celebrate, learn, and grow together; and through pop-ups, holiday gatherings, and intimate learning spaces. Join us, bring a friend, and make Jewish life in Harlem your own.

Our Impact

Jewish life flourishes when it’s built on relationships, and that’s exactly what we’ve been cultivating in Harlem for over a decade. Through shared meals, deep conversations, and joyful gatherings, we’ve created a community where you’ll come to be known, seen, valued, and called upon.

Over the years, we’ve engaged thousands of individuals through Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, and learning experiences. From Fridays at Temple 5, where hundreds have found a home for soulful Shabbat gatherings, to Shalom Harlem, which is nurturing the next generation of Jewish families, to our regular learning Circles and beyond, our reach continues to grow.

We’re not just building programs—we’re shaping a thriving ecosystem of Jewish life in Harlem. And we’re just getting started.

"The medieval rabbi and philosopher Maimonides taught that by repeating actions again and again, they become fixed in the soul. In other words,

We are what we
repeatedly do.

We are what we

Our Take On Community

There is something very important that we have learned time and again over these many years. Mark our words:

Community is always, always the answer.

We are not saying that community is easy. Far from. It is difficult, sometimes painstaking work to build and sustain community (trust us). Community can contain deep and passionate disagreement. Community is hard-won. Community provokes us. Community contains multitudes.

And this is a moment to double down on community.
